McCarthy Painting was founded in 1969 by Fred McCarthy in Mill Valley, Marin County. What began as a small local painting operation has grown into one of the Bay Area's most respected painting contractors — a journey spanning more than five decades.

When Greg Owens arrived in Marin at sixteen — a high school dropout from New York — he found his uncle Fred's painting business waiting. By nineteen, Greg had become Fred's partner, learning the trade from the ground up with a work ethic that would define his career and the company's future.

A pivotal moment came at age twenty-six, when Greg attended a PDCA (Painting and Decorating Contractors of America) convention and found a mentor who helped him transform McCarthy Painting from a small operation into a seven-figure enterprise serving both residential and commercial clients across the Bay Area.

Today, under Greg's leadership, McCarthy Painting combines decades of hands-on expertise with modern techniques and premium, low-VOC materials.
